Green Inntervention

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Green

Sustainability Weds Yankee Ingenuity ... an Exciting Match ... Delivering Prizes Today and Pointers for tomorrow

Leap at the Chance to be part of
A Green Inntervention
Benefiting Mt Washington Valley Scholars & the Civic Plantings of The Mountain Garden Club

Mt Washington Valley, NH - The Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley (BBInnsMWV), the first lodging association with 100% of its membership pledged to sustainability and individually certified by either the New Hampshire or Maine Sustainable Lodging & Restaurant Program, will host their first Green Inntervention, Saturday, June 13th between the hours of 10 AM and 5 PM.  Tickets are available in advance as part of stay and tour packages with the participating inns or on Saturday at the door for $15 per person.  This event is conceived to illustrate sustainability as a process not a destination and eco friendly living as enjoyable as it is beneficial.  Practical steps to changing the cycle of personal purchasing and life habits for “The Greater Green” will be illustrated along the way

Ticket holders will have multiple ways to track down treasure as they move about the valley, picking up pointers on how to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle along the way.  Each Inn will host a “Twisted Yankee Swap” which will have items to trade for items the ticket holders have brought with them, reducing the need for new manufacturing (and cash!).  There will also be a “Green Treasure” item raffled at each Inn and nine raffle tickets are a part of each original ticket purchase.  Additional bonus raffle chances will be awarded prior to the tour based on Green criteria outlined in the brochure and map (e.g., Hybrid transportation, car pooling, etc.)  A tried and true idea will be featured too... there will be good old fashion yard/barn/garage sales at several of the inns and along the route between participating inns.  Be aware of “house rules” they may differ between sights, but are concocted in good fun to encourage “proper” negotiations.  Once concluded the local treasures can be recycled from their old home to yours. The names of the ticket holders who visit all of the participating Inns will be entered in a drawing for a $200 gift certificate good toward a stay at any of those inns.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley Hospitality Scholarship Fund & the Civic Improvement Fund of the Mountain Garden Club.  BBInnsMWV, a non-profit organization of innkeepers provides an annual scholarship for a worthy student from either Kennett High School or Fryeburg Academy furthering their education in the hospitality field. BBInnsMWV has partnered with Dollars for Scholars to match the scholarship dollar for dollar if the student attends a participating advanced educational institution.  The nature of this event suggested an additional recipient and BBInnsMWV chose to use part of the proceeds to benefit the plantings in public spaces throughout the Mt Washington Valley which are created and maintained by The Mountain Garden Club, whose continued efforts add to the vitality and beauty of the area

BBInnsMWV participating include: Buttonwood Inn, Cabernet Inn, Cranmore Mountain Lodge, The Farm by the River B&B, Mt Washington B&B, The Notchland Inn, The Oxford House Inn and Spruce Moose Lodge.  All are members of either the New Hampshire or Maine Sustainable Lodging and Restaurant Association and agree to work to integrate sustainable practices into their daily lives.  Each Inn will have both their own sustainability statement and that of the BBInnsMWV available for review so tour participants may take away ideas that may help them to develop their own written statement.  Visitors staying at any of these locations the weekend of June 13th  can receive tour tickets as part of their stay packages, along with breakfast each morning and eco enticements ranging from CFL light bulbs, to potted perennials, to dinners created with the health of the planet and a greener tomorrow in mind
